Common Failures of TPMS You should Know

The cars of Universal, Audi, Mercedes and other companies all use the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), that is, the tire pressure sensors are installed on the four wheels to directly sense the tire pressure, and the temperature of the tire can also be monitored. Even some well-known companies have specialized tire sensors, such as the famous Mercedes tire pressure sensor, Audi TPMS sensor and BMW tire pressure sensor.

Common failures of tire pressure monitoring system

 

1. Tire pressure is too low

 

The vehicle instrument display shows that the tire pressure of a tire is too low and the tire pressure light is on; after rotating the menu, "Please check the tire pressure monitoring system" appears.

 

Cause: One or several tire pressure values are low.

 

Solution: Inflate the tire that is prompted to have insufficient tire pressure (up to 240kPa), and then restart the car. There is no need to read in the tire pressure indicator sensor. Or you can choose to install a low tire pressure sensor (smart TMPS sensor), so that you can get more detailed instructions for low tire pressure and make changes in time.

 

2. Tire pressure is too high

 

The vehicle instrument shows: the tire pressure of a certain tire is too high; after rotating the menu, "Please check the tire pressure monitoring system" appears.

 

Cause: The tire pressure value of one or several tires is high.

 

Solution: Deflate the tires that are prompted to have excessive tire pressure (up to 240kPa), and then restart the car. There is no need to perform a tire pressure indicator sensor reading procedure.

 

3. 4 tire pressure values are not displayed

  

Vehicle instrument display: 4 tire pressure values are not displayed.

 

Cause: The vehicle battery was disconnected.

 

Solution: The car can return to normal after driving.

 

4. Some tire pressure values are not displayed

 

Vehicle instrument display: Some tire pressure values (may be 1, 2, or 3) are not displayed and the tire pressure light is on, or "Please check the tire pressure monitoring system" appears after rotating the menu.

 

Reason: When reading the tire pressure indicator sensor, the wrong tire pressure sensor position or the vehicle's modified electrical system (such as the installation of DVD, etc.) were read, which interfered with the receiver's reception of the tire pressure sensor signal.

 

Solution: Use the correct tire pressure diagnostic tool or the inflation and deflation method to re-read the tire pressure indicator sensor reading process; if the interference signal released by the DVD system is modified or added, the electromagnetic interference must be eliminated first.

 

5. Unsuccessful learning of tire pressure monitoring system

The vehicle instrument display: the four tire pressure values are not displayed and the tire pressure light is on. After the menu is rotated, "Please check the tire pressure monitoring system" appears.

Reason: BCM software and calibration are not the latest version, sensor failure, vehicle modification DVD, interfere with the receiver to receive the signal of the tire pressure sensor.

Solution: Reprogram and update the body control module software, and then perform the tire pressure indicator sensor reading procedure and replace the new tire pressure sensor. Due to the strong interference signal released by the retrofitted DVD, electromagnetic interference must be eliminated.

 

If the tire pressure monitoring system fails, you will either choose to reproduce the TPMS sensor or reset the tire pressure sensor. Either way, it is necessary to ensure the correctness of the car tire detection system. Only in this way is the double insurance for the safety of cars and people.
