What Are the Sensors for Engine Control?

With the development of automotive technology, the degree of engineering of the electronic interference has continued to increase, and ordinary mechanical systems have been difficult to solve some decoding problems related to functional requirements. Therefore, these systems have been replaced by other systems such as the tire pressure monitor system and the electronic control system.

The function of the sensor is to provide a useful signal based on the physical and chemical information of light, time, electricity, temperature, tire pressure and so on. As a key component of the electronic control system, the sensor directly affects the technical performance of the car.

Sensors for Engine Control

There are many types of sensors for engine control, including sensors for temperature, tire pressure, speed, position and so on.

This type of sensor is the core of the entire engine, which can improve engine power and reduce consumption of fuel. Because they work in harsh environments such as sludge, and muddy water, they are required to be more resistant to harsh conditions. There are many requirements for performance criteria, the most critical of which is accuracy and reliability. Otherwise, the errors caused by sensor detection will eventually cause the engine control system to fail or malfunction.

1. Temperature Sensor

Many types of sensors are used for the engine control and the temperature sensors mainly detect the temperature of the engine, the intake gas, the cooling water and so on.

2. Pressure sensor

It is mainly used to detects the absolute pressure of vacuum, tire pressure and so on. There are several types of pressure sensors, such as  variable-inductance (LVDT), and surface-acoustic-wave (SAW) sensors.

For example, the LVDT sensors are suitable for mass production and output, but they are poorly resistant against vibration. However, the type of SAW has the characteristics of small size, light weight, low consumption of power consumption, strong reliability ans so on. All in all, it is an ideal sensor.

3. Sensors of speed, angle

This kind of sensors are mainly used to detect the speeds and angle of vehicles. Mainly of them are types of generator, vibration and so on.

4. Oxygen sensor

The oxygen sensor is installed in the exhaust pipe, measuring the oxygen content in the exhaust pipe and determining the deviation between the actual air-fuel ratio of the engine and the theoretical value. Therefore, the control system can adjust the concentration of the combustible mixture according to the feedback signal to make the air-fuel ratio is close to the theoretical value, thereby improving economy and reducing exhaust pollution.

5. Flow sensor

They can determine the air and fuel flow to control the air-fuel ratio. There are sensors of air flow and fuel flow. The sensors of air flow detect the amount of air entering the engine and controls the amount of fuel injected by the injector to get a more accurate air-fuel ratio.

6. Knock sensor

It can send the knock signal to the control system to prevent the occurrence of knock.
