The tire is an important part of a car, and the quality of the tire directly affects the normal operation of the car. The main consideration for tire performance is the tire air pressure. Too low or too high air pressure will affect the performance of a tire. Long-term inadequate air pressure will reduce the service life of car tires and ultimately affect driving safety.

TPMS is the abbreviation of "tire pressure monitor system". Its function is to monitor the tire pressure automatically in real time during the driving of the car, and to alarm the tire leakage and low air pressure. It is an important pressure monitoring system to ensure driving safety.

On the current market, TPMS can be divided into Wheel-Speed Based TPMS and Pressure-Sensor Based TPMS. Wheel-Speed Based TPMS actually relies on calculating the tire rolling radius to monitor air pressure, and is widely used in the automotive industry. Many imported cars produced in 2006 are equipped with an indirect tire pressure monitoring system, such as rover,gm and other models. The operation principle of Pressure-Sensor Based TPMS is to replace the valve with the sensor directly with the valve of the original car, and then use the sensor chip in the monitoring sensor to sense the slight changes in tire pressure and temperature under static and moving conditions. The electrical signal is converted into a radio frequency signal, and an independent channel transmitter is introduced into the receiver, so that the owner can know the tire pressure and temperature of the body tire no matter when driving or stationary.

Wheel-Speed Based TPMS needs to compare the speed difference between tires through the wheel speed sensor of the car's antilock brake system (ABS) to achieve the purpose of monitoring tire pressure. ABS will determine whether the wheels are locked by the wheel speed sensor, and then decide whether to activate the anti-lock brake system. When the tire pressure decreases, the weight of the vehicle will make the tire diameter smaller, and the vehicle speed will change. Changes in vehicle speed will trigger the Wheel-Speed Based TPMS alarm system, thereby reminding the owner to pay attention to the lack of tire pressure.

The tire pressure monitoring display (TPMD) is a software function of the antilock brake system and does not have its own independent address code. Its main work is to monitor the tire volume and tire vibration. When working, the feedback data from ABS is used to calculate the rolling circumference of the tire, and then the rolling circumference is compared with other relevant parameters. If the tire is flat, it will cause changes in the monitoring signal and trigger an alarm. The relevant standard parameters displayed by the tire pressure monitoring are calculated by the system according to the driving status of the self-learning process. This process is called calibration.

The tire pressure monitoring display (TPMD) uses ABS wheel speed sensors to compare the speed difference between tires to monitor tire pressure. Its main components include ABS control unit, instrument cluster and gateway. The specific working process is to transmit the respective wheel speed signals to the ABS control unit through the four wheel speed sensors. The ABS control unit then transmits the signals to the tire pressure monitoring control unit combination meter. The combination meter performs data processing. If the tire pressure is too low , The combined instrument of the tire pressure monitoring and control unit will transmitted to the ABS control unit through the gateway for alarm.

Compared with Pressure-Sensor Based TPMS, the Wheel-Speed Based TPMS system is lower in cost and the operation and upgrade of the system is more convenient. It only needs to perform software upgrade on four rounds of ABS. However, Wheel-Speed Based TPMS is not as accurate as Pressure-Sensor Based TPMS. At the same time, the WSB system cannot determine the details of the faulty tires, so you need to consider carefully when choosing a model.
