Why Does the Tire Have Patterns?

Cars rely on Tires to support them on the road, but directly contact the road with tire patterns. Tires not only carry and roll, but also become the source of power for driving, braking and steering of cars through the frictional force generated by the blocks and the road surface. The following article mainly analyzes the effect of the tire pattern.

The role of Tire pattern

The main function of the tire pattern is to increase the friction between the tread and the road surface to prevent the wheel from slipping, which is exactly the same as the sole pattern. The tire pattern improves the ground contact elasticity. Under the action of tangential forces between the tread and the road surface, such as driving force, braking force and lateral force, the blocks can produce large tangential elastic deformation.

As the tangential force increases, the tangential deformation increases, and the "friction effect" of the contact surface increases, thereby suppressing the tendency of the tread and the road to slip. This largely eliminates the shortcomings of non-pattern (bright tread) tires that are prone to slip, and ensures the vehicle's power, braking, steering, and driving safety. There are many factors that affect the pattern function. The main factors are the pattern type and pattern depth.

Common pattern of Tire

The ordinary pattern is suitable for use on hard roads. It is divided into vertical, horizontal and vertical and horizontal patterns.

1.Vertical pattern

The common feature of the longitudinal pattern is that the tread is continuous in the longitudinal direction and broken in the lateral direction, so the longitudinal rigidity of the tread is large, while the lateral rigidity is small, and the anti-sliding ability of the tire is horizontally strong and weak. This patterned tire has low rolling resistance and good heat dissipation performance, but the patterned grooves are easy to embed in gravel.

This type of pattern is suitable for driving on relatively clean and good hard roads. For example, cars, light trucks, and minivans choose this pattern.

2.Horizontal pattern

The common feature of the transverse pattern is that the tread is continuous in the transverse direction and longitudinally broken, so the lateral stiffness of the tread is large and the longitudinal stiffness is small. Therefore, the tire's anti-skid capability is longitudinal and weak, and when the car is turning at a higher speed, it is easy to skid; the Tire's rolling resistance is also relatively large, and the tread wear is more serious.

This type of pattern is suitable for medium or heavy trucks with large traction on general hard roads.

3. Vertical and horizontal pattern

This pattern is between vertical and horizontal patterns. In the middle of the tread, a zigzag longitudinal pattern is generally used, while a transverse pattern is made on both sides close to the shoulder. In this way, the vertical and horizontal anti-sliding ability of the countertop is better.

This type of patterned tire has strong adaptability and a wide range of applications. It is suitable for both different hard roads and for cars and trucks.

In the next article, we continue to study the different styles of tire patterns. Since the tire plays an important role in vehicle, car owners should pay more attention to the tire, TPMS can help monitor the tire pressure, If you have any TPMS purchase requirements, please contact us in time.
