What Is the Difference Between Four-Wheel Positioning And Dynamic Balancing?
In addition to the TPMS installation, the tire installment also needs dynamic balancing and four-wheel positioning.
1. What Is Dynamic Balancing
The wheel of a car is a whole composed of tire and wheel hub. However, due to the existence of valve and the limitation of mushroom nail and tire sealant after tire repair, the mass distribution of each part of the whole body is uneven. When the car wheels rotate at high speed, it will form a state of dynamic imbalance, resulting in the phenomenon of wheel vibration and steering wheel vibration during the driving process. But when we drive, the wheels will run at high speed, so the imbalance will lead to a series of situations, endangering driving safety.
Thus, in order to avoid this phenomenon or to eliminate this phenomenon, it is necessary to make the wheel correct the balance of each edge part by increasing the balance weight under the dynamic condition. The process of this correction is dynamic balancing, which should be done on a professional instrument. After the test, the technician will balance the wheel by sticking the counterweight.
2. When Dynamic Balancing Is Needed
As long as the tires and rims are separated, dynamic balancing must be done. For example, changing the tire, taking the tire down for inspection, steel ring deformation, tire repair, adding tire pressure monitor system, and replacing the valve may be related to dynamic balancing.
Taking the installation of Gussin TPMS as an example, tire pressure monitor system can be divided into external and internal models. When installing the external type, the tire does not need to be disassembled. The technician only needs to screw the external sensor on the air nozzle, which weighs only 9g, so dynamic balancing is not needed. When installing the built-in model, the technician first needs to remove the tire, replacing the valve, and then install the built-in sensor. By this time, the tire and the rim have been separated, and the weight of each built-in sensor is 60g. In the meanwhile, the quality of the whole tire has changed, so after the installation of the built-in tire pressure monitor system, it is very necessary to deal with the dynamic balancing of the tire.
In addition, the dynamic balancing should be done after the car being repaired in collision accident, the front and rear tires being worn on one side, the steering wheel being too heavy or floating and shaking when driving, and the car runs to the left or right when driving straight. In addition, the car needs to do four-wheel positioning after pretending to test the tire pressure.
3. What Is Four-Wheel Positioning
When all cars leave the factory, wheels, steering mechanism, front and rear axles have fixed positions and angles. However, with the accumulation of mileage and tire wear, these fixed data will be changed, which may lead to a great driving risk. Therefore, the four-wheel positioning is to ensure that the vehicle has good driving performance by adjusting the four-wheel parameters. The specific parameters to be adjusted include front wheel toe in, front wheel camber, kingpin inclination, kingpin caster, etc. The rear wheel alignment parameters are similar to those of the front wheels, but the rear wheel alignment parameters of most cars are not adjustable.
4. When to Do Four-Wheel Positioning
(1) In addition to dynamic balancing, a four-wheel alignment is recommended when the tire is replaced. Certainly, after four-wheel shifting, four-wheel alignment must be made to ensure the correct position of four tires.
(2) Make four-wheel alignment when the vehicle deviates. When the driver turns the steering wheel in a straight line, the car will still run to the left or right by itself. The driver can only keep adjusting the steering wheel, and if he is not careful, he will run for several meters to the left or right. This is the common "vehicle deviation". At this time, you need to make a four-wheel positioning.
(3) In case of eccentric wear of tires, four-wheel positioning shall be carried out. When you find that one of the four tires is worn very fast, or one side of the tire is worn very fast, you need to check it. After eliminating the problem of the tire itself, four-wheel positioning needs to be done. If you let it go, you may have a problem of flat tire.
(4) After moving the chassis, four-wheel positioning needs to be done. When the parts of automobile axle and suspension are removed, the parts to be installed again will have displacement with the factory, so four-wheel positioning is necessary.
(5) Do four-wheel positioning after the accident. When the chassis and suspension of the car are damaged due to the accident, the car must be inspected throughout the year. Generally, a four-wheel positioning needs to be done during or after maintenance.
In a word, dynamic balancing is to adjust tire balance and four-wheel alignment is to adjust suspension parameters.
